Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Regiment MEmorial

Before forming the 54th Mass, Mr. Shaw saw real fighting for the first time, during the Civil War, during the Battle of Cedar Mountain.  He provides a detail account of the battle in letters to his mother.

His experience is also captured in the books “Blue-Eyed Child of Fortune” and “One Gallant Rush” by Peter Burchard which was the source for the highly acclaimed movie “Glory.”
